Signals from Nowhere #4 | A Haze over the Great Lakes

A Haze Over the Great Lakes

Hey there, Operator Reader!

August is here already and I can officially say that I spent a decent amount of July traveling close-to-home doing some research for my next book. Okay, yeah, playing around in the Great Lakes while humming the Kraken theme from Pirates of the Caribbean 2 isn't very academic, but it meant something to me.

Joking aside, I was actually super busy. My mom, who has been in my care for ten years, was finally able to move into her own place where I will continue to support her while I work on fixing up my little hovel. Maybe trying to publish a book, renovate a house, sell said house, and handle two moves in one year is a bit much, but overwhelming myself to the point of madness is kinda what I do.

I did, however, get some really pretty pictures of Lake Michigan.

But first, updates!

BBNYA 2025

I am very excited and proud to announce that A Lonely Broadcast: Book One has been nominated -- and made it to the semi-finals -- of the Book Blogger's Novel of the Year Awards! The awards are still ongoing, meaning I'm not sure if I've made it to the finals yet, but even semi-finals is a big deal to me. This is the first competition I've ever entered (with IngramSpark's blessings). I hope it won't be the last!

You can follow the BBNYA awards on Twitter here!

Signed Paperbacks: The Betrayal

I have gotten an incredible reaction to the signed paperbacks, so thank you to everyone who has ordered them! Currently, orders have been on hold for the last week because USPS temporarily misplaced two of my orders. That's almost 40 books that disappeared (I may be a little salty about it). Thankfully, I just received word on August 1st that they were back in transit along with a replacement order, and now I've got over 60 books total on their way to my house. My mailman is going to wonder what the hell kind of operation I'm running. More importantly, this means that I will finally be able to catch up on all signed paperback orders at the same time.

Goth Girl Does Gothic Fiction

I'm still deliberating on the title for my Midwestern Gothic collection, but one thing is clear already: I think you guys will really enjoy it. Four of the six novellas are now completely finished, with the complete book covering a full spectrum of gothic fiction: the eerie mysteries, the descents into madness, haunting generational traumas, and so much more.

Rick didn’t say anything for a bit. Instead, he was eyeing the forest again, a deep wrinkle between his gray, bushy eyebrows. “We must have had more foxes in the woods than usual.” His voice was slow, soft, and careful, every word carrying a heavy weight. “When they cry at night, it sounds an awful lot like a woman screamin’ bloody murder.”

The Next Broadcast...

The next time I talk to you guys, I will (hopefully) have a more solid release date for my short story collection! I'm aiming for late fall, but what I want and what I'm capable of are sometimes not the same thing. Uncertainty aside, I'm going to try my best to get a moody, spooky October release prepared for you all.

Ok love you bye

Back to Our Feature Presentation... Hey there, Operator Reader! Sorry I was gone for a couple months, I was busy wallowing in despair. In all seriousness, the world has just felt too heavy to be creative lately, and I know this isn't a unique problem. It can be difficult to see a reason to keep writing or making art when everything outside our homes is scary and uncertain. I'm sure plenty of you are going through the same feelings right now. So, let's talk about it. How to Be Creative in The...

It's Been a Minute... Hey there, Operator Reader! I promise I didn't die. But I have a good excuse for my absence and it's: 1) I was swamped with projects, and 2) I am so very, very sleepy. But I've got way too much stuff to talk about to hold off any longer! On the docket tonight, I'm going to tell you guys about my new book release (and how to get your hands on it), the audiobook for A Lonely Broadcast 2, what I'm working on next, and some future projects I'm bouncing around in my head....

A Mysterious Transmission... Hey there, Operator Reader! Something new is on the way this Fall. While we take a short break from our usual Pinehaven broadcast, a new signal is growing stronger this year. My first book of short stories, temporarily called Midwestern Gothic (working title), is scheduled for the Halloween season! And while ALB 3 is certainly the most awaited project by far, I think fans of the series will really like this one too. We got ghost trains, we got corn fields, we got...
