Signals from Nowhere # 5 | Hometown Gothic

It's Been a Minute...

Hey there, Operator Reader!

I promise I didn't die. But I have a good excuse for my absence and it's: 1) I was swamped with projects, and 2) I am so very, very sleepy.

But I've got way too much stuff to talk about to hold off any longer!

On the docket tonight, I'm going to tell you guys about my new book release (and how to get your hands on it), the audiobook for A Lonely Broadcast 2, what I'm working on next, and some future projects I'm bouncing around in my head. Let's get into it before I get sleepy again.

We Don't Hear Crickets Anymore

It's finally time! My newest book, We Don't Hear Crickets Anymore, comes out on November 14th! It features six novelettes that are quick enough to read in one long sitting (if that's your thing), but they each pack a heavy punch that takes us on a tour of all the different types of gothic fiction: psychological horror, a descent into madness, feminine rage, the stages of grief, and some good old fashion cryptid tales.

Spencer wakes one morning to find that something has moved into his old hunting blind, and it left him a startling image on his trail camera. Willow hasn't left her house in months, but the arrival of an uninvited guest in her home makes it hard to stay. Nathan, haunted by memories of the last camping trip he ever took with his childhood friend, comes back to see the shoe tree one last time. These six Midwestern Gothic short stories encompass the mundane, folkloric horror of the Great Lakes, with all the nostalgia of a campfire story.

And guess what? The pre-order is up! Once the book is officially released, I'll have a link straight from the publisher, but for now, Amazon and Barnes & Noble are both offering pre-sales for paperback and ebook.

I do plan on making an audiobook version of this as well, but I'm not quite ready to commit to any details about that yet. Just know that it's definitely on my list of priorities!

I'm extremely hyped for this release, not just because it's something different for me, but because I got to spend a lot of time with my past while writing it. I have a love-hate relationship with the village I come from, but like every small town, it has a history that is worth remembering - this is the best gift I can give it before I can finally let it go.

What Everyone's Been Asking For...

A wholesome, cheerful romance novel! Nah, I'm just fucking with you. A Lonely Broadcast: Book Two the Audiobook is in early production.

The crew and I are still hashing out the details for crowdfunding rewards, but the trailer is out! The phenomenal cast will be returning from Book One, with Autumn Ivy as Evelyn, MrCreepypasta as Daniel, Joey Sourlis as Finn, and Be/Hold providing the atmospheric soundtrack. I am so excited for this, and could not possibly ask for a better crew to bring my book to life a second time. Trust me, it's going to kick so much ass.

Books, and What Else?

So now that Audiobook 2 is in the works and We Don't Hear Crickets Anymore is officially on its way to the presses, what's next?

A couple things, actually. One of them, predictably, is A Lonely Broadcast: Book Three. After taking a few months away from Pinehaven to cleanse my palate, I'm ready to go home to 104.6 FM and continue the story where I left off. I miss working on it way more than I ever thought I would, and going back has already got me stuck in so many feelings - and I've barely even written more than a few pages. I can already tell this one is gonna be rough (complimentary).

I've also got some ideas cooking for new editions and things to offer in my shop! I know people have been asking about hardcover copies for a while now, and the only reason I haven't dropped those yet is because I want them to be perfect. I'm talking glossy, illustrated interiors, brand new chapter layouts, and spines that make their own display piece. If I'm going to commit to hardcovers, I can't half-ass it. It's full-ass or nothing.

Also, as I'm sure many of you already know, I got some extra eyes when Creep Cast decided to cover my old Reddit stories on their podcast! Hearing from them was an awesome surprise and I am so, so thankful for the flood of positivity and brand new readers I got from this opportunity. I'm still recovering from the incredible amount of signed paperback orders (if you're still waiting on yours, I'm trying so hard to get all those orders filled ASAP, but even my print service was not prepared for this!) Anyway, you all are amazing and I'm stoked to have so many new friends joining the 104.6 FM crew. <3

The Next Broadcast...

You'll be hearing from my dumb ass soon enough. When the Audiobook kickstarter launches and copies of We Don't Hear Crickets Anymore are physically out in the world, I'll be circling back to tell you all about it!

For now, it's 26 degrees outside and this drafty old house is not merciful. I'm off to find a warm blanket, watch re-runs of Cartoon Network shows, and think about the Edmund Fitzgerald some more. Take care, weirdos. <3

Ok love you bye

Back to Our Feature Presentation... Hey there, Operator Reader! Sorry I was gone for a couple months, I was busy wallowing in despair. In all seriousness, the world has just felt too heavy to be creative lately, and I know this isn't a unique problem. It can be difficult to see a reason to keep writing or making art when everything outside our homes is scary and uncertain. I'm sure plenty of you are going through the same feelings right now. So, let's talk about it. How to Be Creative in The...

A Haze Over the Great Lakes Hey there, Operator Reader! August is here already and I can officially say that I spent a decent amount of July traveling close-to-home doing some research for my next book. Okay, yeah, playing around in the Great Lakes while humming the Kraken theme from Pirates of the Caribbean 2 isn't very academic, but it meant something to me. Joking aside, I was actually super busy. My mom, who has been in my care for ten years, was finally able to move into her own place...

A Mysterious Transmission... Hey there, Operator Reader! Something new is on the way this Fall. While we take a short break from our usual Pinehaven broadcast, a new signal is growing stronger this year. My first book of short stories, temporarily called Midwestern Gothic (working title), is scheduled for the Halloween season! And while ALB 3 is certainly the most awaited project by far, I think fans of the series will really like this one too. We got ghost trains, we got corn fields, we got...
