Signals from Pinehaven #1 | Welcome, Operator!

The First Transmission...

Hey there, Operator Reader!

Wow, so, did everyone else have a really bonkers-crazy April or was it just me? I feel like I spent most of it sick and stuck in bed, but not every day can be the most productive. We're all still waking up and surviving, and honestly, that's good enough some days. Give yourself a pat on the back and pretend it's me sneaking in through your window to tell you I'm proud of you. Go ahead. It's not weird.

If it feels like this newsletter is my first big attempt at professionalism, you'd probably be right! For a while now, I've been drifting along on social media with nothing but shitposts and a dream. But recently, my representative at Ingram told me I needed to be "more professional" and "more organized", so I figured the cursed images and random info-dumping about the Chernobyl power plant weren't enough to sustain a long-lasting career as an author.

Jokes aside, I've wanted to do something like this for a while. Writing is something I want to do for the rest of my life and I want to do it the right way, and that starts with communicating with my kick-ass community: that's you, baby.

A third book? And short stories?

I've gotten a lot of questions about whether or not A Lonely Broadcast will have a third installment - and the answer is yes! My plan is that the third book in the series will be the finale of Evelyn, Daniel, and Finn's story. And because it's the end, I want to really take my time and make it as perfect as it can be.

In the meantime, however, my next planned publication is a book of short stories based on the folklore and spooky vibes found here in the Midwest. As a Michigan native, I've wanted to share my hometown horrors for a long time. The Midwest is a creepy place: endless flat fields of corn and soybeans, tornado sirens, rusty railroad tracks, and cold, dark winters that last forever.

I'm really excited about this collection because I think it has a folklore-based horror energy that fans of A Lonely Broadcast will enjoy. Plus, a lot of the stories are inspired by true events or things I've encountered myself, such as the legend of the Shoe Tree (any of y'all ever see a big, dead tree covered in shoes? We've got like three of them out here and they're all haunted as shit).

It was 1997. September, I think. And between the news of Princess Diana’s death and the first screening of Titanic, something happened in a little Michigan town that the rest of the world would never hear about."

This newsletter will take many different forms depending on what I'm working on at the time, so I'm excited to share all its different faces with you.

For now, I'm gonna go wander into the fog for a while. I hope there's a Walgreens in there.

Ok love you bye

Back to Our Feature Presentation... Hey there, Operator Reader! Sorry I was gone for a couple months, I was busy wallowing in despair. In all seriousness, the world has just felt too heavy to be creative lately, and I know this isn't a unique problem. It can be difficult to see a reason to keep writing or making art when everything outside our homes is scary and uncertain. I'm sure plenty of you are going through the same feelings right now. So, let's talk about it. How to Be Creative in The...

It's Been a Minute... Hey there, Operator Reader! I promise I didn't die. But I have a good excuse for my absence and it's: 1) I was swamped with projects, and 2) I am so very, very sleepy. But I've got way too much stuff to talk about to hold off any longer! On the docket tonight, I'm going to tell you guys about my new book release (and how to get your hands on it), the audiobook for A Lonely Broadcast 2, what I'm working on next, and some future projects I'm bouncing around in my head....

A Haze Over the Great Lakes Hey there, Operator Reader! August is here already and I can officially say that I spent a decent amount of July traveling close-to-home doing some research for my next book. Okay, yeah, playing around in the Great Lakes while humming the Kraken theme from Pirates of the Caribbean 2 isn't very academic, but it meant something to me. Joking aside, I was actually super busy. My mom, who has been in my care for ten years, was finally able to move into her own place...
